Missed or late diagnosis

A condition found late is a story the records can tell

Doctors can’t catch everything, and not every late diagnosis is a failure. We ask whether a careful provider, given what you reported and what the tests showed, would have acted sooner.

We line up your symptoms, the visits, the tests ordered and not ordered, and how results were read and passed on. Then a physician in the right specialty tells us whether earlier action would likely have changed what came next.

What we trace

  • What you reported, and on which visit

  • Which tests were ordered, and which weren’t

  • How scans and lab results were read and written up

  • Whether results ever reached you or the next doctor

  • What earlier treatment would have meant for you

Where it tends to go wrong

Common ways a diagnosis slips. Yours may not fit any of them.

  • A scan read as normal

Something visible on imaging that was missed or described too lightly.

  • A heart attack or stroke sent home

Warning signs written off as something milder.

  • A cancer found months late

Symptoms and screening results that weren’t followed up.

  • A result that never reached you

A lab report filed and forgotten, with no call.

  • An infection treated too late

Early signs of sepsis or a spreading infection that went unaddressed.

  • Symptoms brushed aside

Concerns dismissed without the tests a careful doctor would run.

Missed diagnosis questions

What if an earlier diagnosis wouldn’t have changed the outcome?

Then there may be no claim, and we’ll say so. A case has to show that the delay itself made things worse, not just that it was a delay.

I switched doctors after. Can you still get everything?

Yes, with your signed release we request records from every provider involved, including the ones you’ve left.

Should I confront my doctor?

You don’t have to. It often helps to keep your follow-up care steady and talk to us first about what to ask for.

Think a diagnosis came too late?

Share what you were told and when. We’ll tell you whether the records deserve a closer read.

We review your case at no charge. If we take it, our fee is a share of any recovery and nothing if there is none. Case costs, such as records and expert reviews, are explained in writing before you sign, and the agreement says whether you owe them if there is no recovery.
